Hi :

My name is Adam Chadwick. I'm a former New York Times copy-editor. Hit with the layoffs this past December.

I'm working on a documentary film focusing on the erosion of the U.S. newspaper industry called "Fit to Print". As part of the project I'm looking to speak with a few disgruntled current or former newspaper interns or freelancers who may have been working their asses off for a major newspaper, and are sick of busting their ass just to find they don't have a job at the end of it all.

Would you or anyone you know be willing to speak about this on camera?

I'd love to talk when you get a moment. I'm at 720-333-6555
or adamgchadwick@gmail.com

Cheers,
Adam

Couldn't agree more. In fact, living and working in a town (West Hartford) that's far from an advertising hotbed has made my skills even more in demand. Sure, the pay's been scant or naught, but picking up small projects - some for organizations that truly benefit from having a media-savvy entry-level writer, where the rest of their employees are older and less aware of communication trends - is rewarding for both parties.
As for life outside of the office, I'm an advocate and practitioner of everything you preach. Since graduating, I've been dreaming about a month-long California vacay - taking the historic Amtrak route from the Bay Area to LA. The funds have yet to come, so I'm making a small concession - soon, I'm going to take a weekend and drive the entire perimeter of Connecticut. Become a resident expert on the place you live (shoot, if you're a writer, write the book!) - I mean, you live there, after all!
Love waking up to read your positive (and brutally honest) takes every morning. Keep on blogging, I <3 what you're doing!

Thank you, I'm glad you're enjoying the blog. Until recently I assumed the only people reading were a few of my friends, so I'm glad to hear this blog is making it's way out of my circle of contacts. Congratulations on the internship at your dad's law firm! Any experience is better than no experience, even if you're not being paid. Who knows, the people you work for might be able to help you find a full-time job or connect you with someone who can. As for whether or not I've considered writing a relationship advice column, no I haven't, though I did write an article about Valentine's Day for my college paper once. Why do you ask?

No problem. Happy to be of service. Glad you're liking the blog. I figured that a lot of people must be going through the same thing as me in the post-college job search, so I want to help others while I am still figuring it all out for myself. Keep reading and pass the link along to your friends!
